May's Emergency Prep Challenge and Opportunity

Hello my lovelies!

May's Emergency Prep goal is 72 hour kits for every member of your family. After water I think 72 hour kits are the next important thing you can have ready in an emergency. The first 72 hours after an emergency are often the hardest. You have the least information, the outside emergency crews aren't responding yet, and your family can often be hurt and scared. 72 hour kits are critical during this time before a large scale response is going.

Granite Stake (my parents' stake) has a lady that has done Emergency prep for years. She seriously has a bunker in her backyard stocked full. She is amazing! She has graciously consented to us "jumping on the band wagon" with her 72 hour kit prep in May. They are also offering Eregency Cans of Heat. (see info below)

You may also have noticed it requires a special wrench to open your new 55 gallon barrels! We will be offering that this month too!

So here is the run down:

ALL MONEY IS DUE BY MAY 15TH. CASH PREFERRED. MAKE CHECKS OUT TO MINDY MCKNIGHT. MUST ALSO HAVE AN ORDER FORM FILLED OUT!

*Cost for 72 hour kits: $10 a kit (recommended one kit per person)

*Contents in kit:

1 long burning candle
1 emergency blanket
1 package matches
1 can Ravioli
1 can Beefaroni
1 can Vienna Sausage
2 packages beef jerky
2 fruit snacks
2 packages Lipton Noodle Soup
2 Nutri-Grain Bars
2 Nature Valley Granola Bars
1 bag M & M’s
10 pieces hard candy
1 package gum
3 packages hot chocolate
2 packages hot cider
3 boxes of raisins
1 package cheese & peanut butter crackers
Fork, spoon & napkins
1 cup
1 Gallon water
Mylar Bag

They will be using the cannery's equipment to seal the mylar bags shut and put a label on the outside to remind you what's in there. I will go and put our whole ward's order together on May 27th. I will then have them available for pickup at my house. (more info on that later)

****You can ALSO purchase an Emergency Can of Heat. This is a quart size can filled with toilet paper. It comes with a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a box of matches. In an emergency you can simply pour the alcohol on the toilet paper and light it up. It will burn for 2 continuous hours of heat.

Emergency Can Heat Cost: $3.50 –Includes can, toilet paper, alcohol and matches. These cans will provide heat in an emergency. Perfect to go with your 72 hr. kit.

I am told if you put an emergency can heat in your car with 4 extra rolls of toilet paper and 4 extra bottles of rubbing alcohol that you could provide yourself 24 hours of heat in a car. What a great idea!!!

So let's get our ward prepared! My goal is to have 200 kits signed up for. Let's see if we can beat that!!!!

***We will also be offering the wrenches needed for opening your water barrels. Macey's has offered us a great deal on a wrench the opens the water barrels and your 5 gallon buckets.

Wrench cost: $3.25 each
